Monitor The Strategic Trends
Introduction:
The move toward a global government received a big boost this summer by the introduction of a proposal for an International Criminal Court. Over U.S. objections, the United Nations Diplomatic Conference voted 120 to 7 in favor of establishing an international criminal court to try individuals accused of genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and the crime of aggression.

UN Treaty Jeopardizes UK's Homeschoolers - On June 11, 2009 a report on home education in England by Graham Badman, a former Managing Director of Children, Families and Education in the County of Kent, was accepted in full by the British Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families. The report makes the case that homeschooling should be extensively regulated in England.
Aside from registering with the state and mandating reports by homeschoolers, the Badman report makes references to balancing the rights of parents with the rights of children. This idea is expressed in the UNCRC.
UN Treaty Still Trouble 19 Years Later - The US and Somalia are the two lone nations since 1989 not to have ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. President-Elect Obama has already said he would consider its ratification; after all, the protection and nurture of children is extremely important. Yet, signing the treaty would allow the UN to trump US sovereignty where children are concerned, and would lead closer to a world government. "US laws for protecting children are the best in the world," said one watchdog group leader, "and we don’t need a treaty to help us."
World has 100 days to Fix Crisis - European Union leaders backed a 100-day deadline by which the world's leading economies should decide urgent global finance reforms. The EU is calling for a quick deal on an overhaul at the Nov 15 summit in Washington. The EU also wants a second global summit next spring to flesh out changes to the way the world economy is governed.
Foreign Economists Urge 'Global Plan' - Leaders and economists from Western Europe to East Asia Tuesday urged the United States to go beyond reviving a failed domestic bailout and start working on a new global financial system. Some say the next U.S. president should immediately call for a second "Bretton Woods" conference to devise a new doctrine of international finance.
GCC to Endorse Monetay Union - The Gulf Cooperation Council, which includes Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, will launch plans for a new common currency and central bank at the GCC summit in November. The council hopes to have the new monetary union in place by the year 2010.
