Author: The apostle Paul
Dates: I Thessalonians: A.D. 51 from Corinth (1 Thess 3:1, Acts 18:1)
II Thessalonians: A.D. 51 or 52 from Corinth, after Silas and Timothy had returned from delivering the first letter.
Thessalonica was the largest city in Macedonia, a busy seaport city and a center for trade. Paul left Thessalonica shortly after the church was started (Acts 17:1-9), and the converts had little theological support in a city full of paganism. What is astonishing is that these two epistles are written to remind their recipients of things which they were taught by Paul during the few weeks he was with them - a course on eschatology! Paul writes to the Thessalonians about the Rapture, the Antichrist, the Great Tribulation, and the Second Coming!
